Craps : More about Craps terms

By Arthur Levine

Level: Jul 25th 2007
In this article we are going to talk about the terms used to describe various actions in the game of craps, such as: come out roll, come bet, and many more.

Coloring
The word color can be used to describe various actions. "Color in" is when the dealer announces the boxman that the chips (or cheques) are coming. "Color up" is when the dealer announces the boxman that the chips are being exchanged.

For example if you would have handled 10 $10 chips, the dealer might say color in, then color up. If he exchanged that stack of chips, with a chip representing $100, he will say color out.

Come Bet
If you want to place a come bet, you have to place the chips into the space right below the numbers, which is called the come area. This bet resembles the Pass Line Bet. At first you place a bet, and then the dice are rolled. Your bet will be placed in the number that has resulted after the roll.

Now you are allowed to place odds on your wager. In this bet, you will win if the next roll is a 7 or 11, but you will lose if the next roll is a 2, 3 or 12. Things work opposite in the “don’t come bet”, as you win if a 7 is rolled before your number.

Come out Roll
This bet is the start of each betting cycle, because it establishes a point. If a 7 or 11 is rolled, the Pass Line Bet wins, and the Don’t Pass Line Bet losses. If a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled, the Pass Line Bet losses. A 2 and 3 will make the Don't Pass Line Bet wager win, but a 12 is considered a push.

Comps
Comps are offered to any casino games, and they are rewards offered from the casino to the players. Usually the player must meet a certain criteria before he receives a comp. The player must be registered for the casino's player card, otherwise he can’t receive comps. Most of the casinos use a system to reward their players.

Crap
Craps are the numbers 2, 3 and 12, and they are the winning numbers on the any Craps bet.
