Two neighboring First Nations are contending to build a casino and a jackpot is expected for the winner.
The band that finally builds the project will gain hundreds of jobs and could earn $10 million annually in casino cash to fight persistent anguishes like substance abuse and youth/gang violence. The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission will permit only one casino in the area, and has insisted on the bands to build the project together and share in its benefits, but they've refused.
