The European Commission has decided take legal action against countries that until now neglected to open their betting markets across the entire EU. It seems those countries will be Denmark, Finland, Hungary and Sweden. Also Germany and the Netherlands will be taken into consideration.
Such a motion will bring great advantages for online casino sites, and players, all around Europe but no just in those countries. The opening of the betting market means equal opportunity for all the online gambling companies in the area which will determine a much more competitive environment.
As a consequence there will be better payouts, more bonuses and a higher overall level of online gambling. It is possible that this decision was influenced by the Platanica case. Remember this case made waves for a few weeks in the media.
The European Court of Justice pronounced against the Italian government which favored a gambling monopoly. Also it supports the free movement of trade and services among European Union nations. This should close down state-run gambling monopolies, making foreign online casino sites activity more visible on the European side.
But online gambling fans have to wait until this would be reality, because all the legal actions that have to take place need a little time.
