As time shows, betting has at all times been a basis for making quick money for some, and losing savings for others. As an example, just in the United States, the betting industry is approximated at 40 billion dollars per year, which is more than both the movie and music industries united. And recently with the world wide web, internet gambling, has also become a slowly growing sleeping giant.
Even if the internet gambling industry makes an estimated 600-800 million dollars a year, it is predicted by experts that internet gambling turnover will soon surpass the billion dollar mark.
Normally in the US, internet gambling is illegal, but because numerous online gamblers appeared, the law prohibiting online gambling could not be sustained, and so, it was forgotten.
One way of bending the law, is the way webmasters do it: they bypass it by creating their websites via countries in which betting is legal, for instance, the Caribbean, and because of the globalization of the internet, any citizen can instantly gamble anytime. In the US, the authorities try to resolve the problem in several different ways.
A way to go is by trying to pass a law in Congress to enable legal action to be taken not only against the online gambling operators but also against the gamblers themselves. But the US Federal system declared that no such law shall be passed on, because it is in contradiction with the rights of the Constitution.
Even gambling operators sometimes have a hart time when trying to collect their money from players who lost it, because players are able to stop their credit card payments by claiming that the industry is illegal to begin with. Nonetheless there is no doubt that internet gambling is on the rise, and that the industry will carry on increase.
