Poker : Playing Tight Poker

By Daniel Michaels

Level: Apr 27th 2007
Skill and deception are required elements in poker. If one uses them, you will beat your opponents in the long run, even if you might lose some rounds. There are many ways one can play the game, and Tight Poker is one of them.

Tight Poker is played when there aren't too many players at the table and because of this the pots are smaller. Because the pots are smaller, the winnings are not too big and because of this many avoid playing this type of poker, but let's hold on a second ...

Checking is very frequent in this type of game, because everyone hopes they will receive a free card. As soon as one places a bet, the rest of the players will play offensively. In a land based casino, simultaneous games are played in different rooms and the player doesn't know whether the game is tight or loose.

If the player sits at a table and does not like it, he can request a transfer to another table. The players are allowed to increase the limits for each bet, thus raising the stakes. If the player can't afford the bets, he is free to move to another table. In an online casino things work slightly different.

Tight poker is played less and less by the people, mostly because of poker's increasing popularity. Now the action attracts people to play poker, and the tight poker can't offer them this action.

Tight poker can be seen as a test: if you manage to win here, then you have a chance of winning at a table with higher stakes. If you can’t win when playing poker, then continue playing at this level until you win, otherwise you will also lose at a high stakes table.

The level of the players is very important. If the players are at a lower level then you, then you should remain at that table. If they are better then you, then you should change the tables.

The aim of poker is to win money, and it may take a while until you find a profitable type of poker. When you find it, you can become very successful. Luck is a major factor in poker: sometimes you will lose or win purely because of luck. Even so, it is better if you have a strategy that will help you make good decisions when the time comes.
