7 Tips to Play Specific No Limit Holdem Poker Hands
1 - You Hit a Draw on the Flop.
It’s very important to know who you are playing against when you have a straight or a flush draw in No Limit Texas Hold’Em. If you are playing against a good poker player, then you might want to consider not chasing the draw. Calculate the pot odds and see if chasing the draw is a lucrative decision. Just keep the following in mind:
- Try to be the bettor and not the caller if you are getting good pot odds up to your entire bankroll.
- You should usually check and call only if the pot odds are worth it when you are in an early position.
Note that you are more likely to get called once you catch your straight than after you make the flush though a flush has more outs than an open ended straight.
2 - You Hit a Top Pair on the Flop.
Always keep in mind that numerous players like their top pair so much that they stay in the game even if it is not the right decision to make. If you hit top pair on the flop you should bet, but do that cautiously. You should consider folding if a good player calls your bet or raises it.
3 - You Hit Two Pairs on the Flop
You should carefully consider what the odds are that the next card will make someone else’s hand better since you probably have the best hand at the table. Then all you have to do is decide how much money you wish to wager. Bet very aggressively if you have the bottom two pairs since a lot of cards can make your hand worthless. You can be less aggressive if you have the top two pairs and no flush or straights are possible.
4 - You Hit a Set on the Flop
The odds of getting a set or better are about 12% if you have a pocket pair. Your primary goal will be to make the other players put their money into the pot if you do get your set. Depending on the board and the players you are competing with, you should decide whether to slow-play till the river or not. You should bet against tight players and slow-play against loose aggressive players. No matter who you are up against, you should always bet when there is a flush or straight draw.
5 - You Hit a Straight on the Flop
There are different kinds of straights and it is critical for you to recognize them. If you have King/Queen and the board is Jack, 10 and a 9 then you could hit the best possible straight on the flop. If you have 7/5 and the board is 9/8/6 then you could hit the worst possible straight. Keep the following in mind:
- What are the chances that the next cards will hurt your hand? Let’s say that the board has two or three of the same suit. In this case you should bet more aggressively.
- The size of the pot and your opponent’s pot odds. Let’s say that you have 10/8 and the flop is Queen of Hearts, Jack of Hearts, and a 9. You opponent’s chances of hitting a flush draw on the river are about 36%. So you should bet half the pot size and render his call worthless.
- The number of poker players you are competing with. You should bet more aggressively as the number of competitors increases.
6 - You Hit a Flush on the Flop
You can slow-play and let other players get the second best hand or induce a bluff if you have the best flush possible or the nuts. You should bet at least half the pot size if you are not holding the nuts. This way anyone trying to go for the nut flush will have to overpay in order to get it.
7 - You Hit a Monster on the Flop
On rare occasions you will hit a monster such as a full house, four of a kind, or a straight flush. In this situation you should slow play and let others make second best hands.
