Assorted tips and tricks to improve your craps game
I will start with what is probably the best tip: practice makes better. The more you play, the better you will become. You can start with free online craps games. They are easy to play, simple to understand, realistic, and best of all they will not cost you a dime. You can later on move to real money craps games or you can even go to a land based casino and play live craps.
The first thing that you must do is set up a playing style or strategy. Then you must use it in your game and you must stick to it. Do not change your playing style mid-game and do not deviate from your strategy. If you have any questions, feel free to ask the dealer (if you are playing live craps). If instead you are playing online casino, check with the casino and they will answer all your questions.
If you want to feel comfortable while playing, then respect the table etiquette. It is mostly based on common sense, so you should not have any problems. But just in case, we will go over a few basic etiquette rules. The craps table is a crowded place, so try not to occupy more space that is necessary. Keep your hands to yourself; you do not want to interrupt the game by accidentally touching the dice. Always keep calm, focused, and on top of your game. Use your head when placing your bets. Pick the table that is suitable to your bankroll and always make sure to check the table minimum.
Learn the Pass Line or the Place 6 or 8 bets first. The house edge on these bets is just 1.5%, which makes these bets very attractive.
Keep away from proposition bets such as hard ways, horn, any Craps, any seven and other wagers. The any craps bet for example has a house edge of 11%.
In my personal opinion you should always take odds on the pass line bets. Since many casinos can go up to 100x odds, you can actually try making at least double odds. You may ask the dealer or read the casino rules if you are rolling the dice online in order to find out what the proper odds are.
Keep away from lay bets. The house charges a 5% commission on these bets.
Field bets are single roll bets, so consequently they present a higher risk. Be cautious when making such bets. You should place field bets only when you have a strong hunch that a shooter will roll a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12.
Be careful when making buy bets. The house charges a 5% commission on these bets. Not to mention that they have a high house edge. Simply stay away from them.
If you are really determined to make a buy bet, I suggest making them only on 4 and 10. They are the only numbers on these bets with a high return of 2 to 1 in the player’s favor.
Probably the best wager in craps is the pas line bet. Avoid following a progressive pass line betting when you are losing. This system proves to be a killer for most players.
When given the chance, you could make a smart move and place free odds bets. They are additional bets on top of other bets you’ve already made. The house edge for these bets is from 1.5% to about 0.8% and the house does not charge a commission.
