George Costanza Poker Playing Tips
Actor Jason Alexander, best known as George Costanza the famous character in the booming television series Seinfeld a great poker fan and also a poker player. “I am a c+ or b- poker player, on my way to become a b+ poker player, at the most” as he says.
Mr. Alexander had been seen participating in cash games, celebrity poker tournaments and at the World Series of Poker invitational but he says that he mostly plays online poker games. His poker history starts back in the high school and college and continues with poker games played on the shooting sets during downtime. “Everyone in the business plays”, added Jason Alexander.
Even though he still plays mostly online poker games and cash games, eight years ago he played in celebrity tournaments. Giving a tip-off at his secret poker success, “Acting,” he says, “is lying” so perhaps people give him credit because he is a famous celebrity or because of his acting skills. Humorously and modestly, he said having cards in his hand is half way to winning; they could win.
For his first 2007 WSOP appearance this summer, our George Costanza had the American poker player Phil Gordon as a poker teacher. Wearing his cap and t-shirt with the pokerstars.net brand on he was ready giving us some poker playing tips.
J. Alexander reveals that he does not have good reading people skills and he does not have good math skills for calculating as a professional, opponent’s hands or their odds to win the pot. The only thing he’s good at is calculating his own hand, position and basics, pot odds but when it comes down to it, he goes with the hand that he thinks can win. More, we can conclude that he plays’ based on “skilled instinct”.
One of his tricks at the poker table is changing constantly his style of play. Using this strategy he is making his opponents lay down winning hands by confusing them. Sometimes he is an aggressive player, and then he changes his playing style and then back again, on 15-30 minutes cycles.
No matter on his playing style or his success at the poker table, Mr. Alexander will remain a humorous presence to all of us.
