People all over the world like to gamble, for various reasons. Also most of the gamblers consider bingo as a soft form of gambling because often it is practiced by seniors.
But more and more players play online bingo. Can bingo be considered as an addictive form of gambling after all? It is proven that a player can become addicted faster if he plays the game online because, he can play it from the privacy of his home whenever he wants.
You can find out easier if you are in danger of becoming addicted to gambling by comparing these examples:
A player logs into a bingo room every day and buys around 10 bingo cards each day. He plays the game, but even if the game is fun, he doesn’t get too much pleasure from playing it. He gets excited when he is getting close to a win, and he likes to interact with the people in the gambling chat rooms.
He chooses the busiest gambling chat rooms and he doesn't place too much importance on winning. He can quit playing whenever he wants, and he knows when to quit.
Addiction is defined as "a compulsion to repeat behavior, regardless of the consequences", so can his behavior be considered as an addiction? He likes to interact with other people, he buys some tickets and sometimes he makes some money. Even if some consider him a gambling addict, the gambling did not affect his life whatsoever.
Let's take another case: a woman plays the same game every time and she buys bingo tickets with money she can't afford. Her performance at work is affected by the long hours of playing and when she wins some money, she uses them to play some more, hoping that she will win even more next time.
You can clearly see the difference between these two examples. John Pandazopoulos, the Australian Minister for Gaming, who recently launched Australia's Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, said that by keeping in mind these criteria will reduce the risk of becoming a gambling addict:
- Don't gamble for money, but for fun
- Before you gamble set a limit and don’t exceed it.
- When you lose walk away, don't chase your losses
- Think of the people who rely on your support
As long as you are able to play safely and limited, you can play your favorite online games.
