As legislation in the Indiana General Assembly stipulate the Indiana’s riverboat captains jobs and the jobs of their crews on Indiana's nine casino boats, 11 mariners man the boats 24/7, could be terminated. The amendment, debated and approved, would allow slot machines at the state's two horse-racing tracks. In exchange, riverboats would no long need a propulsion system.
But the captains and crews felt their growing irrelevance. They haven't cruised their boats about five years. The slowing importance of mariners seems to be similar to the Indiana's growing comfort with legalized gambling.
