Video Poker : Casino Video Poker Works for EverybodyBy admin
|Level:||Jan 6th 2010|
Casino video poker is something that is a relatively recent phenomenon. It certainly foes not have the long history of regular poker, or blackjack, craps, roulette or baccarat. Yet it has risen quickly to become of the more popular games in the casino.
Obviously there couldn't be anything called "video poker" until the development of the computer and computer-programmed games, which in particular make use of something called a Random Number Generator, or RNG, which is designed to make every deal a random one. That is the key to making casino video poker a continuous game that doesn't have to be "re-shuffled."
One of the advantages of casino video poker is that you can play it in a number of different places within a land-based casino, including at the bar when you are having a drink. The game is simple for a lot of people who may be intimidated playing at a regular poker table, for a couple of reasons: one is that there is a certain constituency of players who just don't want interaction with others. That is the culture that has continued to make slots more and more popular, and that is one of the things that has fueled the additional activity in video poker.
There's another factor too, if you really think about it - the brand of poker that is played on a casino video poker terminal, while not the same that is presented and promoted on television (Texas Hold'em) is that which many people grew up with when playing with family and friends, which is that of a five-card draw game.
In video poker, you generally have five cards dealt to you, and you have the opportunity to retain or discard any of the cards that have been dealt, with the chance to improve the value of the hand. There is a "second chance" appeal to that, and even among those who have never stepped up to play a casino video poker game, there is usually not a lot of confusion as to what the hand values are. For example, three of a kind is better than a pair; four of a kind is worth more than three of a kind; a straight flush is better than a straight. These are long-standing parts of card-playing culture and they don't change in the game of casino video poker.
Another thing that is somewhat comforting is that just about everything we say about casino video poker is essentially the same, whether we are talking about the game as it is played in a land-based casino or in an online casino setting. The only real difference in casino video poker is how you press the buttons, and I think you'll find that as time progresses, the line will get blurred even more between the two.
