Short Description

Blackjack is a classic game of strategy that puts you against the dealer in a challenge to see who can get closer to 21 points without exceeding. Both you and the dealer receive two cards at the beginning of the game. You can see both of your cards, but only one of the dealer's cards. It's your decision. Take a Hit and hope that the next card will push you closer to 21, without surpassing it.

Rules

  1. Dealer must draw to 16
  2. Dealer stands on soft 17
  3. Blackjack pays 3:2
  4. Insurance pays 2:1
  5. Even Money pays 1:1
  6. Double Down on 9, 10, 11
  7. No Double Down on Splits
  8. No re-splits
  9. European No Hole Card - Player loses total bet on Dealer BJ, including splits and double downs.

Card Values

  • Cards 2 through 10: face value
  • Face Cards: 10 points
  • Aces: 1 point or 11 points, whichever makes a better hand
  • Natural Blackjack: if the player's first two cards total 21 it's a Natural Blackjack. Blackjack is the highest hand.
  • Hard Total: the total of any hand not containing Aces or the total of a hand where the Ace is counted as 1. So a 10 and an 8 is a Hard Total of 18, or a Hard 18. An Ace and a 7 is a Hard Total of 8.
  • Soft Total: a hand that contains an Ace which is counted as 11. Exempli gratia: an Ace and a 9 are a soft 20. "Soft" denotes that the value can be changed. If later valued at 1, it becomes a "Hard" hand.

Playing

Player is dealt 2 cards face up. The dealer is dealt one card face up. The No Peek rule in European Blackjack means that the dealer cannot check to see if he has blackjack until the second dealer card is dealt, after you have finished your hand. Consequently, if the dealer does finish up with blackjack, you will lose any supplementary bets made. Obviously, the dealer can only get blackjack on the hand if the first dealer card is a 10 value card or an Ace. Depending upon the dealer's up card the dealer will offer either Surrender, Insurance or Even Money.

  • Upcard is not an Ace: Offer Early Surrender

Players without Blackjack have the option to Surrender. Players accepting Surrender lose half of their initial bet, and the hand is ended.

  • Upcard is Ace: Offer Insuranc
  • When the dealer's up card is an Ace, and the player does not have blackjack, the player is offered Insurance. Taking Insurance means the player makes a second bet (the value of which is half the initial bet) that the dealer has blackjack. If the dealer has blackjack, the player loses their initial bet but is paid 2 to 1 on the insurance bet. If the dealer does not have blackjack, the Insurance bet is lost and the hand is played out as normal.

  • Upcard is Ace: Offer Even Money
  • If the dealer's up card is an Ace and the player has a blackjack, the player is offered even money. Taking even money means that the player believes the dealer also has blackjack. When taking even money, the player is automatically paid 1:1 by doubling the player's chip amount in the bet circle, and play on the hand ends.

For hands that continue after the dealer actions, any of the following conditions may apply for the player:
  • Hit and Stand: on any hands where the player doesn't have a blackjack, the player may Stand (refuse any further cards), or Hit (accept another card). A player can hit as often as desired until they select stand or they bust (exceed 21). When you bust, you immediately lose your bet in spite of the dealer's hand result.

  • Double Down (player hands only): you are betting that your hand can be won with one more card. Players can double down if their two first card's hard totals, on either original or split hands, add up to 9, 10, or 11.

  • Split (player hands only): if you are dealt 2 cards of the same value (like two eights or a Jack and Queen), the hand can be split into two separate hands. You cannot split 4s, 5s, or 10-valued cards.
