Short Description
Baccarat is one of the simplest table games introduced into France from Italy in the XV century. The most famous type of baccarat is chemin de fer, which has been promoted by several James Bond movies. The other versions of the game are baccarat banque and punto banco.
Baccarat is a simple game with only 3 possible results:
- Player
- Banker
- Tie
Point Values
Baccarat cards are counted in a unique manner. Cards from 2 to 9 maintain their face value. All 10-value cards (tens and all picture cards) count as 0 and Aces count as 1.
The value of the hand is obtained by adding the value of the individual cards. If the cards in a hand total 10 or more, simply subtract 10. So, summing a 6 and a 4, we obtain zero. Any hand worth zero is called a Baccarat.

Baccarat's Main Idea
Baccarat is largely a game of luck which offers the player a comprehensive expectation of winning. However, the house edge can be reduced with money management and skillful play to 1 %.
Baccarat is played with 6 or 8 decks of 52 cards. As mentioned before, there are 3 types of bets and the game odds are high. Your goal is to successfully guess whether the Player's hand or the Banker's hand will get closer to a value of 9 or that the game will result in a Tie.
In chemin de fer, one gambler assumes the function of the Banker and one of the remaining players the function of the Player. The Banker deals cards to the player and himself in a predetermined manner with both having the option to accept or reject supplementary cards. Ultimately the hand with the higher value wins. If the Dealer wins then the Players lose their stakes. If the Player wins, he is paid according to his bet. When it comes to a Tie, no one wins.
How to play Baccarat?
It really isn't essential to be familiar with all the details of dealing baccarat, because the game flaws according to predetermined rules and the bets are easy to make.
You decide whether to bet on the Dealer or the Player to get as close as possible to a total of 9. Or you can bet the game to end in a Tie. This is an exceptional outcome but you win eight times your bet if you're right.
So, here are the concrete stages of playing Baccarat:
- You place a bet on the Player, Banker, or on a Tie
- The Player and Banker are each dealt 2 cards
- If each hand has a Natural, that hand automatically wins, unless there is a Tie (in a Tie between two Naturals, the highest point value wins. If both Naturals are equal, you Push on Banker and Player bets and win on Tie bets)
- The Player draws a third card or Stands according to the rules
- The Banker draws a third card or Stands according to the same rules
- Ultimately the two hands are compared to establish the winner
