Absolute Poker Cheating System Exposed
By Andrea Klein, Oct 31st 2007
During an online poker tournament at Absolute Poker, a poker player had doubts of how another poker player participating in the tournament was winning so often, guessing it was a case of online poker cheating. After the tournament, where he finished second, the player requested a copy of hand histories for the online poker tournament he participated in and the website accidentally supplied more data than just hand histories.
At first all the information received seemed like fairly standard stuff for our suspicious poker player. However, after he looked into it further and with the help of a few friends who are also online and tournament poker players, he exposed all hole cards for all players as well as IP addresses and other proprietary info.
All that 'rubbish' data he received by accident from the poker website helped him in the end to expose an Absolute Poker cheating system.
An observer had come into his poker room during the tournament and it appears relayed the winning player of all other hole cards. For instance, the player in question folded his first two hands before this observer entered the room, and then folded no other hands for about twenty minutes until he folded pre-flop when another player held a pair of kings.
According to the info discovered in the data send by the online poker website, the IP address and account name of the observer links back to Absolute Poker. The conclusion everyone has arrived at is that the online poker website had an insider with access to all hole cards in real time and that this insider transmitted that information to an outside collaborator, in this way cheating at Absolute Poker.
