Differing Opinions About New Casino in Kansas
By Andrea Klein, May 14th 2007There have been a few studies conducted regarding a destination casino in Southeast Kansas. The results vary from study to study.
William Thompson, a gambling researcher and professor of public administration at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, said his study revealed that the casino would make money if it would attract visitors from the outside area. His study estimated that the new resort casino would have in the area of $225 million in revenues annually.
Other studies have other predictions. The study conducted by GVA Marquette Advisors for Kansans Economic Growth, figured revenues would grow from $226 million in the first year to $263 million in year five of operations. On the other hand, Christiansen Capital Advisers made three studies all showing different results varying the revenues from $139 million to $184 million annually.
All these prove that is impossible to accurately estimate how Oklahoma casinos would affect a Southeast Kansas casino.
