Gambler of the Week at Nine.com
By Joni Hawk, Feb 28th 2006Steve Jones of Shreveport LA is the latest Gambler of the Week at Nine.com, an 8 year old offshore entertainment gaming company.
Mr. Jones, upon hearing of a newspaper account of an unclaimed $853,492 Powerball ticket from October took a chance and decided to do a little housecleaning. One of the three tickets he swept out from under his bed wound up being the big prizewinner.
Mr. Steve Jones took the ticket to the Louisiana Lottery Corp.'s headquarters in Baton Rouge and walked out with $597,447 after taxes.
The lucky winner declared that he heard about the unclaimed ticket from a friend and since he buys them all the time he decided to look for them at home. “I grabbed me a mop and went up under the bed and found three of them", he said.
After finding them he took the tickets at the store from where he nuys many of his lottery tickets and asked the clerk to scan them. “The first two were nothing, but the third ticket said I needed to go the lottery office," said Jones. "I didn't know whether it was the Match-5 winnings or something else. But when they said I had to drive to Baton Rouge, I started looking for someone to drive me. Something was up." Jones' ticket was to expire April 17 giving him only 3 weeks to redeem the ticket.
Winners of the lotteries draw games, such as Power ball; have 180 days after the drawing to claim their prize.
Robert Evans the Nine.com executive who chose Mr. Jones as its latest Gambler of the Week says "I am extremely happy for Mr. Jones as I hope the money is a life changing event for him,"
Mr. Jones will receive Nine.com merchandise and gift certificates to use on their website.
