Gambling Arrests in Greece
By Andrea Klein, May 14th 2007A few days ago, Greek authorities arrested nine people in relation with internet gambling operations held in internet cafes in Arta. It seems that this is an approach Greece is taking in order to align with EU case law developments related to gambling services. Thus, three internet cafe owners who had installed the gambling software of an unnamed UK bookmaker on the computers and six of their clients were arrested in the operations of control.
After the arrests an announcement appeared from British bookmaker William Hill which mentions that they had filed for gaming licenses in Greece and were planning to challenge the decisions in the European Court of Justice if the Greek government refused to grant the licenses.
