Gambling ban clarified by U.S
By Arthur Levine, May 14th 2007U.S looks to explain its gambling ban to the World Trade Organization, ban in which the offshore casinos are targeted by the country's laws. U.S. trade representative told the Associated Press that the WTO gave U.S some time to clarify the reasons for applying the ban, so no WTO member should have any reason for demanding any compensation.
The WTO ruled that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act passed by the U.S in October put the offshore casino in a disadvantage. The act prohibited any banks and credit card companies to process transactions to offshore gambling firms.
The Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda says that the country and its citizens who work in the gambling industry suffer because of the ban. If it's applied equally to remote betting on horse racing, the country can maintain the anti-gambling law.
Trade representative John K said that the gambling ban was applied a long time ago in the U.S, and because of this the citizens couldn't bet. He believes that changing the law, so that the foreign people could bet, when the U.S citizens can’t is illegal.
