Kansas Casino future to be voted on in June
By Arthur Levine, May 8th 2007The voters of Cherokee County, Kansas, will to a vote go in several weeks time to determine if a state-owned casino and hotel complex will be allowed in the county. The referendum was scheduled for the June 5 ballot by the Cherokee County Commission on Monday.
Voters living in the area where the casino is proposed to be built must vote if they agree with the building of the casino, according to the state law. Commissioner Rodney Edmondson said that four weeks, the time left until the vote, is more than enough for the people to decide upon this matter.
A plan was made by Penn National Gaming, together with Kansans for Economic Growth, to operate the casino and the hotel half-mile from the Interstate 44 Baxter Springs.
