Small Chances for Wisconsin Casino Bill
By Andrea Klein, May 7th 2007The Ho-Chunk opposes the Beloit casino because the area for building it is part of the Ho-Chunk Nation's aboriginal land. But they agree that Assembly Bill 205 which imposes important financial and legal responsibilities for gambling companies is not welcome.
Although the Wisconsin Assembly passed the bill it seems that no vote would be scheduled in the Senate. It is expected the bill will influence Gov. Jim Doyle in approving off-reservation casinos, such as the one being proposed for Beloit. According to the federal law only governors have this right.
Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson mentioned she has no intention to schedule the bill for a Senate vote. Moreover, Carla Vigue, governor spokeswoman, declared that Doyle does not support the bill.
In the end, it looks like the bill has small chances to become a law.
