The Excitement of a Poker Tourney
By Andrea Klein, May 8th 2007In Nova Scotia, a weekend poker tournament had to move its venue because it caught the attention of the RCMP.
There were about 40 people who turned out at Calico's Lounge in Truro, Nova Scotia, for the first round of the event put on by the Maritime Poker Tour. At the evening games were expected a few more players, but it seems there were less to watch. Also, there were no police or gaming inspectors on the site.
Initially, the event was planned to be at the Super 8 Motel on the Millbrook First Nation, but the motel wanted the organizers to have permission from provincial gaming regulators. But it didn’t happen. That’s why the event was moved and the big prize of $10,000 was dropped and became a seat at an upcoming tournament in Moncton.
About these happenings, Calico's owner Kevin Dawe, mentioned that he was just trying to bring people into the lounge, not to break the law.
