World Series of Poker champion under attack

By Andrea Klein, Apr 27th 2007
After winning a record-setting $12 million top prize, being the best at a field of 8,773 in last year's world championship event, Jamie Gold, a 38-year-old Hollywood producer, was charged in federal court by a fellow poker player who stated he agreed to split any winnings.

Gold ran into more hot water in a claim that says he violated rules governing tournament play. More precisely, Jamie admitted he flashed his hole card to an opponent and told another opponent about one of his hands. In this case, when playing, the tournament's rules could have been forced Gold to stay out game for 10 minutes. World Series of Poker officials said he would not be punished retroactively for the abuses but they said they had spoken to him about the matter. Moreover, World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack underlines that they do not look the other way for any rule violations they encounter.
