SOUTH DAKOTA DESCRIPTION
The State of South Dakota presently has low-stake gaming in Deadwood and nine Indian casinos operating in the State. The South Dakota Gaming Control Act authorized slot machines (regular and video), poker (all forms), and blackjack in the City of Deadwood subject to a 60% voter approval. Gaming stated in Deadwood in November, 1989. Card game bets are limited to US$5.00; slots range from 50 to US$5. There are no entrance fees, or ID/Passport requirements. Dress is causal. Naturally the casino language and currency are English and the US$.
The Indian casinos are near the towns of, Flandreau, Fort Thompson, Lake Andes, Lower Brule, Mission, Mobridge, Pine Ridge, Sisseton and Watertown. The Indian tribes operate their casinos base on compacts with the state and the National Indian Gaming Act of 1988. The tribal casino at Watertown offers US$100 betting limits. It is the only tribal casino authorized to exceed the State's US$5 limit.
