Kingstown (population 10,000) is in the south of St. Vincent. It is the island's capital and a busy port of call for cruise ships and commercial vessels. The British influence is dominant but there is trace of French culture and tradition. Of special interest is the local shopping center, and the old Botanic Gardens.
