A $50 million project: great gaming and lodging

By Elizabeth Scott, Jun 12th 2007
Recently, Treasure Island Resort & Casino declared that it will begin a $50 million project which will incorporate 230 supplementary hotel rooms, an event center with entertainment and gathering space and a family fun center. The construction started on June 1 and the project is anticipated to be finished in fall of 2008.

The plan includes two hotel wings, featuring 230 rooms. This will expand Treasure Island's room reckoning to 480 rooms. The new rooms will include 25 suites, with 6 end-suites featuring the potential of becoming 3 or 4 bedrooms and 205 regular rooms. Each room will be equipped with expensive furniture and walk-in showers. The central attraction of the hotel is the remarkable illuminated sky bridge, which will link the hotel wings. This sky bridge will exploit the beautiful river views and house three suites on each floor.

Besides the hotel project, an innovative 30,000 square-foot event center will permit Treasure Island to widen the entertainment options. The center will incorporate a 2,800 seat showroom that will practically triple the actual size of the venue enabling Treasure Island to host larger gathering events.

Frank Loth, the Treasure Island Resort & Casino Interim General Manager and Director of Finance, stated that this project will permit them to satisfy the growing needs of their hotel and convention guests. Also he said that they had to refuse many large corporate events because they didn't have the requested space.

Audrey Bennett, the President of the Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Council, is ecstatic about the financial impact this will have on the region. He stated that this project is an investment that will make Treasure Island an essential entertainment destination and an important contributor to the local economy. Audrey Bennett also said that they are proud to collaborate with nearby communities to bring tourists to this area.

Treasure Island Resort & Casino is the only casino in southern Minnesota and the only facility of its class situated on the banks of the Mississippi River. Treasure Island offers some of the greatest gaming, lodging and food service in the casino industry. Treasure Island features over 2,500 slots, 44 table games, 10-table poker room and 550-seat high stakes bingo hall all contained by 7 casinos, each with a unique Caribbean theme.
