Bingo Clubs Sold by Rank

By Arthur Levine, May 25th 2007
In order to prepare for the smoking ban, Rank has put almost 10% of its bingo clubs estate up for sale. The bingo clubs put for sale spread all across England: from north to south; from South Shields to Andover.

Rank considers that these clubs would be the most affected by the smoking ban which will be applied in July, so there is no point in keeping them. Rank's revenues located in Scotland dropped 17% when the ban was applied there.

Ten of their 103 properties will be sold, and this action does not come as a surprise, as Rank announced in February that they will close nine of their sites before the ban will be applied.

Most players that play bingo use the slot machines during the breaks between bingo games, but now when the ban will be applied they will go outside to smoke a cigarette instead of smoking it inside while playing the slot machines. This is a major problem, as Rank made most of its profit from the slot machines that the players used during a break.
