Electronic Gaming Tables Will Replace Dealers
By Andrea Klein, Jul 26th 2007While everyone is discussing the current unionization of dealers at Atlantic City casinos, the New Jersey Casino Control Commission has announced that 11 local casinos will start testing electronic gaming tables for poker and roulette. This means that some dealers will remain without a job and the announcement couldn’t have a worse timing.
By introducing electronic gaming tables the Casino Control Commission hopes to grab some of the slot players back from the neighboring markets. Also, they expect to tempt players intimidated by playing in front of live dealers.
Pennsylvania and Delaware already use electronic blackjack, poker and baccarat tables and the casino operators in Atlantic City started to observe erosion in their gaming profits. "I think electronic gaming tables are a very important product for Atlantic City. This is the only reason for approving them and it has nothing to do with the ongoing unionization efforts. The electronic tables are not expected to totally substitute live dealers in Atlantic City" said Casino Control Commission Chair Linda M. Kassekert.
Electronic tables used in Atlantic City will be a little different than those used in Pennsylvania and Delaware. At the roulette tables will remain a live dealer only that payouts and bets will be made electronically and the poker tables will keep their look. The difference will come in the fact that each player’s seat will have an individual screen where they will read their cards.
