Group Calls for Charges against U.S. Attorney General

By Andrea Klein, Jun 25th 2007
Recently, the Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA) filed documentation that seeks to stop the United States from implementing the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). iMEGA attorney Eric M. Bernstein declared that the UIGEA is a method to dictate Americans how to live their lives by imposing public morality in the privacy of one's home.

The lawsuit indicates as accused the U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Reserve System. This is not a precedent, as there were other gambling suits made before against the U.S.

Antigua and Barbuda won a World Trade Organization disagreement, proving that the U.S. is unfairly blocking foreign competition for Internet gambling services to U.S. citizens. On the other hand, Casino City failed in it's suit against the U.S. Department of Justice that sought to protect First Amendment rights to advertise online gambling services.

The most recent legal action from iMEGA plans to use the WTO ruling as evidence that the UIGEA is unconstitutional.
