New Online Poker Website in Sweden
By Andrea Klein, Nov 9th 2007
Swedish gaming company planning to launch online poker website in cooperation with Svenska Spel and Boss Media which will need to assure solutions for security and supervision. The Swedish gaming company is regulated and controlled by the state and a member of the World Lottery Assocation ("WLA").
"This is great recognition of the existence of our Internet poker", said Svenska Spel CEO Jesper Kärrbrink after the Swedish government allowed the WLA gaming company to arrange an online poker website for its local citizens.
The technical gaming platform will be supported by Boss Media and the solutions for responsible gaming, security and supervision which will be incorporated into the gaming platform will be delivered by Svenska Spel. The delivery of the two gaming companies is expected to be made early in 2008.
Markus Holm, executive vice president and head of business development at Boss Media commented their thrill to cooperate with Svenska Spel saying that “Svenska Spel helped us build up the gear for responsible gaming which will be a fundamental part in the gaming companies' interactive gaming offers in the future” “…and working with another WLA-member it is also satisfying for us” added Markus Holm
The compromise of the current government to its prohibited gaming company effectively affirms that the new online poker website must be set up in collaboration with state licensed members only. As a consequence Svenska Spel has a significant role in regard of security and supervision. Svenska Spel and Boss Media will be paid with a part of the rake which the players will pay to the WLA Company.
"Since this collaboration, Svenska Spel's online poker tools for responsible gaming have gained a broad interest all over the world. Our company proved that it is doable to merge an eye-catching online poker website highly valued by the players balancing with wide demands on responsibility. Our online poker website became in just a short period of time undeniably the biggest on the Swedish market, yet the number of problem players on our site is half of that of other poker sites," commented Jesper Kärrbrink, CEO of Svenska Spel.
The WLA gaming company will use Svenska Spel's responsible gaming tool Play Scan, which foresees and warns a poker player who is starting to show up an un-sound gaming behaviour. "We are content to be able to offer our players the opportunity to play poker online in a secure and organized manner. We expect that the state of affairs will expand in such a way that our players will soon be able to play against each other in the same poker network," says a representative of the WLA Company.
