Online Casino Gambling May Become Legal In South Africa
By Alex Brooke, Sep 6th 2007
South Africa, a major online gambling industry locale, may change its opinion towards online gambling within it's borders. South Africa's Department of Trade and Industry are thinking about regulating the online gambling industry by considering the adoption of a platform similar to the UK online gambling policy.
There have been also talks that support the US government practice, for an online gambling ban but there are many opposing the idea -- there are doubts whether it will be able to remain in place for long.
South Africa's Department of Trade asked for a study regarding online gambling technology and jurisdictions so they can decide whether the task is doable and the profits considerable. They sustain that the key for a successful online gambling law, be it regulation or a ban, is a legislative proposal based on thorough survey results.
Some of the Department main concerns are online gambling addiction and underage gambling and these problems together with a few others are expected to dictate government involvement and strict online gambling regulation. However, a decision regarding online gambling laws was expected from the South African government for quite a few years. Seeing that the online gambling industry is about to make the next step, it is the perfect moment for such as a National Gambling Amendment Bill to be formulated and endorsed.
