Past poker champs on the rail

After the last rounds of elimination in the World Series of Poker, many of the famous names moved in with the rail birds as observers.

Following the four-day opening round of the $10,000 buy-in no-limit Texas hold 'em event 2 former WSOP champions busted out. The list with the game's more recognizable names that were eliminated includes:

  • Jamie Gold, the Hollywood producer
  • Phil Hellmuth the winner of 11 past World Series of Poker events
  • Doyle Brunson who was for two times a world poker champion

Also, in the no-limit Texas hold 'em event, Joe Hachem, the 2005 world poker champ busted out within 90 min after he entered in the tournament with $35,500 worth chips.

Fans interest was raised Tuesday, when a number of Hollywood celebrities managed to get over the opening round. Brad Garrett, star of the TV series 'Everybody Loves Raymond' and 'Til Death', started the game with $69,600, grew to $80,000 by mid afternoon but by 3 p.m he was eliminated. He participated in WSOP events for 3 straight years, but this is the first time he's reached the second round.

Tobey Maguire (Spiderman) began with $24,200 and by mid afternoon he collected more than $90,000 in chips.

Famous poker names that remained in the game Tuesday:

  • Scotty Nguyen, the 1998 world poker champion
  • Tom McEvoy, the 1983 world poker champion
  • MGM Mirage executive Bobby Baldwin, the 1978 world poker champion

Brad Garrett declared that he's played poker for 16 year, but still has lot more to learn before turning pro. After he watched Phil Hellmuth playing, Garrett said that he thanked him often because in just a few minutes he learned a lot.

Joe Hatchem said he likes observing celebrities with poker skills. Also, he said that 'Tobey Maguire has become a really good player and he is a competitive player'.
