Reap Benefits Of Internet Gambling

By Daniel Michaels, May 20th 2005
Internet gambling and water quality are the two main reasons Independent candidate Norm Hooper has stood for the Londonderry by-election. Mr. Hooper, a Mt Druitt resident, feels the major parties have overlooked the most obvious way of raising money - and not from taxes.

He believes the next Government should license internet gambling and use the profits to improve infrastructure and services in the State. "Gambling is the third biggest industry in Australia and all the governments aren't collecting enough from gambling revenues," Mr. Hooper said.

A member of the Labor Party for 45 years, Mr. Hooper said his views aren't popular with the party, but he stood as an Independent because he felt so strongly about the matter.

"The first two billion raised from Internet gambling should be used to make Warragamba Dam safe," he said. He also said water purifiers should be installed in every school.
