By Max Defoe, Nov 30th 2007
From the start when it was passed as part of the unrelated Port Security Act the UIGEA legislation has brought all manner of reaction from many important people and created a lot of critics. The legislation was from the start seen as suspicious, especially when it allowed some forms of gambling while banning others. Many are wondering now, could the UIGEA have come to protect the Las Vegas monopoly?
The latest news on the subject announced that Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani has used casino kingpin Sheldon Adelson’s private jet to drive him across the United States on his campaign. About Giuliani is whispered to have saved more than $122,000 last summer only by allowing this favor from the person who owns the Las Vegas Sands Empire.
Here are the details: The Sands' Interface Operations LLC provided a Gulfstream G-IV corporate jet to the Republican leader at the end of August and early September, reports show. Some approximate the value of this service to be modest, in truth.
Giuliani’s connections with the Las Vegas company recollect of another Republican Presidential candidate, Ron Paul, who sustains the legalization and regulation of online gambling. Their party has been the one proposing for the ban in past years and in general keeps away from discussing it in their debates.
The Sands is also said to be working on the expansion of an online casino, their first step onto this modern-day form of gambling, that will provide to the UK and not the US, of course.
