Stars play in Ante Up for Africa charity tournament
By Arthur Levine, Jun 25th 2007Many stars will be competing in the Poker Pros Plan to Play in Ante Up For Africa Charity Event at 2007 World Series of Poker. The event will take place on July 5 and many Hollywood and Sports stars will participate at the poker event.
Don Cheadle and poker pro Annie Duke have designed this event, which is intended to raise the awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. The event will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, on July 5, at 4 p.m. and then the participants will be able to attend a party exclusively for them at the Voodoo Lounge.
Anyone over 21 who wants to participate is encouraged to pre-register at this address: worldseriesofpoker.com/anteup/anteup/pdf.
The Hollywood starts that will compete in this event are: Cheadle, Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt, Jason Alexander, Jennifer Tilley, Hank Azaria, George Clooney, Matt Damon, George Lopez, Danny Masterson, Mekhi Phifer, Ray Romano, Adam Sandler, James Woods, Gina Gershon, Shannon Elizabeth, Willie Garson and Brad Garrett.
The sports celebrities that will compete in this event are: Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Erik Seidel, Howard Lederer, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Gordon, Joe Hachem, Andy Bloch, Chris Ferguson, Barry Greenstein, Robert Williamson III, Phil Laak, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Ted Forrest, Mike Matusow and Clonie Gowen.
The participants are being asked to contribute half of the money they will win at this event to the ENOUGH Project and the International Rescue Committee, organizations which want to raise the awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.
Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the World Series of Poker said that people are very interested about this event and everybody who wants to join is welcomed (in the limit of seats), and together with the stars to be able to relieve the pain of the Darfur refugees.
Cheadle and Duke want to raise awareness about the tragedy that took place in Darfur and they also want to raise funds to help the people from that region.
The 2007 WSOP began June 1st at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and it being presented by Milwaukee's Best Light.
