Time-Share Gaming Quashed

By Daniel Michaels, May 20th 2005
Wednesday, April 16 2003

A Senate panel Thursday killed bill SB104 that would allow time share developments in Nevada to have gambling. Judiciary Committee members discussed amending the bill, but finally, on a motion to approve the bill, it was voted down 4-3. "It's like Frankenstein's monster," says Sen. Dennis Nolan. "The more things we sew on it, the uglier it gets." SB104, proposed by Sen. Mike Schneider, was opposed by representatives of major hotel-casinos. But Schneider argued that the gambling market is changing across the country and large companies are coming to Law Vegas to build time shares that will bring in thousands of people. The senator envisioned a big time-share having 500 slot machines and a couple of table games. He said the time-share owner would probably have some drinks and play the machines but then would go out to hotels for meals, shows and gambling.
