Tribal Casino to Re-Open in Kansas
By Andrea Klein, Jul 10th 2007After Wyandotte County residents voted to support the expansion of gambling in the county, an Indian tribe that managed a casino downtown in the past announced more formal plans to re-open.
The 7th Street Casino, owned and operated by the Wyandotte Nation, is scheduled to be open by the end of 2007.
The Wyandotte Nation had previously operated a small casino in downtown Kansas City, Kan., but the new one seems to boost the pleasure of the visitors with its attractive features. It will be established in the old Shriner's building at the corner of 7th and Ann Avenue, next to Huron Park and across the street from City Hall. A restaurant on the first floor will keep the charm of the old times, while on the next two floors almost 400 class II games will entertain and enliven the spirits.
The old casino, located on reservation land in KCK, has stirred a lot of controversies in the past. Thus, a few years ago, it was shut down but the operators had always hoped to re-open.
Now, due to voters and at least an informal blessing from the Unified Government, the tribe is continuing the new facility's construction.
