UK Gambling Act Effect On Other Countries

By Joni Hawk, Sep 18th 2007
UK Gambling Regulations

The new Gambling Act released in the UK is showing it's effects in Malta. Having legalized all casino operations found in the UK or in the greater European Economic Area, businesses that were formerly based somewhere else in the world are moving nearer. If the purpose of passing this online gambling act was to draw casinos to the UK, the result must be considered a disappointment. Why? Because a 15% tax on casinos' gross profits it is not appealing.

On the other hand, Malta shows an attractive solution with its 2.5% tax rate. Malta has a smart and progressive gaming policy which includes proximity, inclusion and a low tax rate to attract gambling companies. These solutions proved to be a smart economic choice for both the companies and the hosting country as well. Some of the latest gaming companies that moved their operations in Malta are InterCasino and InterPoker

However, the UK gambling act may turn out to be positive for the UK gambler and economy after all, but for now it is pretty obvious that the online gambling act passed in the UK is beneficial to other countries economies.
