UK government supports gambling
By Daniel Michaels, Mar 16th 2007The government is supporting the resolution for Manchester to have the casino license in spite of the Parliamentary movement demanding for the decision to be rethought. A total of 101 MPs have approved the action asking the government to re-evaluate the independent advisory panel's advice.
Nevertheless, the Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell has initiated actions for it to be discussed by both Houses of Parliament. The decision cannot be revised. It must only be accepted or rejected.
Joan Humble, the Blackpool North MP, blocked the Parliamentary motion. Therefore, the government has to reconvene the expert analysis committee of members of both Houses of Parliament which studied the summary of the gambling bill.
It wants to tax the panel's report about the regional casino and then make suggestions to Parliament before any concluding votes.
