US Online Gambling Response disappoints Antigua
By Joni Hawk, May 22nd 2007United States Officials announced recently that they will sustain the online gambling ban, and this response has disappointed the government of Antigua and Barbuda.
A statement was released by the United States Trade Representative's office in which they said that the online gambling will never be a part of the U.S open market commitments, and that the U.S government's position towards the online ban remains unchanged.
The Deputy United States Trade Representative, K. Veroneau, said that the current law prohibits the U.S based companies to have any online gambling activities, and that by allowing the foreign countries to profit from US interstate gambling would be an insane thing to do.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) recently ordered U.S.A to comply with a ruling against online gambling which was released in 2005, but the U.S ignored the WTO’s demand. This action was criticized by Antigua and Barbuda's Spencer administration.
The Antigua's Minister for Finance and the Economy, Dr L. Errol Cort, said that they advice U.S to reconsider the decision because it could have an impact in the future. No wonder that the U.S is becoming one of the most hated countries in the world, giving its defying attitude.
