Virgin Group launches virgingames.com site

By Joni Hawk, Mar 18th 2006
Richard Branson's Virgin Group has announced he wants to tackle the online gambling arena launching the virgingames.com website. The website is Branson’s first flirtation with the gaming world since he failed to secure the UK lottery in 2000.

Virgingames.com based in Alderney with a UK betting license will be powered by Wagerworks, making Virgin the biggest brand name yet to be enticed by UK gambling deregulation.

Simon Burridge, the man who spearheaded the 2000 lottery campaign, has been chosen chairman of the business enterprise and told New Media Zero that the site will be targeted directly at the general entertainment division: 'It's to offer something for everybody. There will be games for avid gamblers, but that's not where the centre of gravity is,' he explained.

The virgingames.com covers a wide collection of games, including a casino, instant win and arcade games, and bingo. As they are only at the start of their activity, prizes are anticipated to range from CDs and DVDS TO first-class flights around the world and stays on Branson's Luxury Necker Island in the Pacific Ocean.
