Blackjack : Mastering Blackjack: secret and off the record tips

By Elizabeth Scott

Level: Feb 9th 2007
When you play blackjack, you always have to acknowledge your profit potential, meaning that you have to understand how the rules of the game can influence, affect your chances of winning.

Why did we use the term "off the record tips"? Because casinos are certainly NOT going to tell you that the odds of making money on their games are maybe smaller than if you would play at another casino. It is the unwritten rule of the market.

So, you'll have to start building a strong knowledge about how to play the game of blackjack in order to have the best odds against the casino...

First of all, you should analyze the rules that the online casino offers for each blackjack game, and use them to your benefit along with the fundamental strategy.

What is this basic blackjack strategy? Complex answer, but is mathematically proven that if played correctly, the strategy will considerably diminish the casino edge in blackjack.

The casino's primary edge in the game is 5.75%, but by using the basic strategy properly, it is likely to decrease the casino edge to about 0.5%. Now what?

Is simple, for increasing your advantage further, you'll have to look for the favorable rules. For example, a gambler can amplify his advantage by using the same basic strategy only the method will be card counting, which transfers the odds of success in your favor. If you want to improve the card counting process, you'll need to play blackjack games by using the favorable rules.

For a better understanding I'll mention some rule variations and the effect that they have on a player's long-term profits. So, the favorable rules for the player are early surrender (+0.62%), late surrender single deck (+0.02%), double down after splitting (+0.13%), drawing to split aces (+0.14%), re splitting of aces (+0.03%), double down cards any number (+0.20%) and 2:1 payoff blackjack (+2.32%). Nice, isn't it?

The unfavorable rules for the bettor, are the following : no doubling on hard 11 (-0.89%), no doubling on hard 10 (-0.56%), no doubling on hard 9 (-0.14%), no doubling soft hands (-0.14%), dealer hits soft 17 (-0.20%), dealer takes no hole card (-0.13%), 2 decks (v single, -0.35%), 4 decks (v single, -0.51%), 6 decks (v single, -0.60%) and pairs no re splitting (-0.05%).

The conclusion from this is obvious, a correct play plus favorable rules means optimum advantages for players!

So far so good, but let's detail the card counting process and the influence of the casino rules regarding the number of decks. This is a vital reflection for any bettor before he plays the game. Card counting is the only way to get the odds in your favor.

Let's analyze a single deck game with player against the dealer, where a 2 plus count is a 2% advantage to the player. If the number of decks is amplified, then we have more cards to be dealt, which consecutively will increases the number of cards left, who will diminish the odds of success for the player.

Unfortunately or fortunately for some players, blackjack card counting is based on probability. The process doesn't try to guess the card sequence, it basically just analyzing the probability of cards coming out the deck. Clearly, the more cards to be dealt the less efficient the probability theory like card counting will be.

It doesn't matter how good you are at card counting, if the rules are against you, is hard to increase your odds... Your skills will probably not be used to their full potential in terms of getting payouts.
