Table Games : Caribbean Stud Poker Story

By Andrea Klein

Level: Aug 9th 2007
Caribbean stud poker, this recently famous poker game got its memorable start in the Caribbean, just as the name implies it, carried through from cruise ships finally landing on U.S. shores.

Caribbean stud poker, the same as the Blackjack game, is played against the dealer, hence the reason of being referred to as a party game. The game is played on a table similar to the blackjack table and has multiple seats. If you want to participate in a game of caribbean stud poker online it will be a bit difficult to play with other gamblers a caribbean stud poker game because not all online casinos offer multi-player caribbean stud poker games.

The layout of the caribbean stud poker table has three main betting areas. The first one is for the ante bets, the spot where a player must place his initial bets. The second area is the Bet spot and the third is the Progressive Jackpot bet slot.

Let’s talk about the basics of the caribbean stud poker rules and how to play caribbean stud poker.

The game starts after all the players made a bet. The betting limits vary from casino to casino, and the smallest that I know of is $5 (perhaps you’ll find smaller limits at online casinos). Now, after you placed your first bet on the Ante spot, it is the time to make a playing decision. Meaning, you need to decide if you want to participate for the progressive jackpot and if you do, you need to place a bet on the spot designated for the progressive bets. Remember this, because after the hand is dealt, you will no longer be able to participate in the jackpot.

After all these betting decisions, all players get their hands made of five cards and the only ones you will get (unlike video poker where you have draw cards). The time for another decision has come. Depending on your cards you can choose to fold or to stay. If you fold, you lose the Ante bet. If you stay means that you think that your hand will beat the dealer’s hand and you need to place the Bet wager. This bet must be at least equal to two times the Ante wager (if your ante was $5, the Bet wager must be $10).

After this betting process ends, the deal shows his or her hand and bets are either taken or paid and any progressive winners are paid.
