Table Games : Time for Poker After Dark

By Elizabeth Scott

Level: Mar 6th 2007
I couldn't believe it when I heard that another poker show was emerging from the already flooded cable market. Poker After Dark (PAD) show it's not equivalent to World Series of Poker, but conversely, nothing is comparable to the big show.

The first time I managed to watch the show, in was Champion's Week. Names like, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Jamie Gold, Carlos Mortensen, Chris Ferguson and some guy named Moneymaker started to play a modest six-handed poker for $120,000.

Different from the WPT (World Poker Tournament) and the WSOP (World Series of Poker) at Poker After Dark you can clearly see most of the hands played. Of course that it's fun to watch when someone throws all his chips into the pot, but true poker is played throughout the small - ball hands. Only expert players actually know how to handle that situation.

So, if you want to learn how to play poker from television, this is your finest chance. It's just like experiencing a home game filled with the world's greatest players. And if you're new concerning the poker's different characters and faces, PAD permits you to observe how some of these gamblers are in fact. Is Hellmuth actually a little monster? Is Mike Matusow truly scared of Phil Ivey? And does Gold actually fit at the champions table?

If you haven't seen PAD, then check it out. You can view each episode on the Internet. Just visit nbcsports.com. You won't regret it! At least Shana Hiatt merits a few glances.

Top-three PAD moments:
  1. Phil Laak vs. Antonio Esfandari

These two celebrities battled for a week. They ended up heads-up with Laak taking down the title. Ultimately, they agreed that the winner would treat the other to a deluxe dinner, or at least offer the loser a possibility to win some money back by gambling the "high card".

  2. Gambling on the next president

The front man for Doyle's Room believes that Hilary Clinton is going to win the presidency if she wins the primaries, betting $10,000 with Esfandari on this outcome. Esfandari, who is accustomed to bet large sums, forced Phil Laak to take 25 % of the action so he could bear in mind the wager. Further, Hellmuth forced Esfandari to make the identical wager with him. Jennifer Harman, who is recognized for her enthusiasm to take action, stated that she couldn't join the fight because she previously wagered $10,000 that Clinton can't win the nomination.

  3. Phil Hellmuth vs. Sean Sheikan

The two exchanged insults for three days before things finally calmed down when Hellmuth was re-raised by Annie Duke. Hellmuth went down. But Sheikan couldn't be quiet, forcing the Poker Brat to turn over his cover and state that in his 28-years of poker, he'd never seen a table where his adversaries wouldn't offer him the time to use his "reading skills". That made the whole table collapse, with Hellmuth leaving the building.
